The Journey
Rick Steves' Tours took us on their Best of Munich, Salzburg & Vienna in 8 Days Tour. It's described as "fairly active", which I feel was an accurate description. We walked many miles over the course of our vacation, over a mile inside one building. Munich Residenz, I'm looking at you! Then again, it's hardly more walking than we do at a music festival like Bonnaroo. That said, Bonnaroo doesn't last eight days. But during the tour there are some travel days that are more low impact, giving you a chance to rest your piggies and enjoy the views along the way.
We started in Munich for two nights, then drove into Austria with jaw dropping scenery and stopping at a brewery and the an adorable organic farm straight out of a storybook on our way into Salzburg where we spent two nights. Then we stepped back in time with a visit to Franz Josef's Kaiservilla, more natural beauty, and a night's stay in possibly the strangest and yet most charming hotel we've every stayed in. Then deeper into the Wachau Valley to visit the Benedictine Abbey at Melk and a cruise down the Danube River before spending our final two nights in Vienna.
